I always say that most of the time, you get what you pay for.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good deal as much as anyone else, but sometimes, if it is something that it is going to get a lot of use, I want good quality. Even then, I will wait for a good sale or search for coupon codes to save a little money.
That was the case when my daughter was ready to change her bedroom.
She loves Pottery Barn, but sometimes it can get a little pricey, specially when you are redoing a whole room.
At the time, she fell in love with this collection from Pottery Barn.
And I have to say, it is the best buy we have made in a long time. After a year and a half of using it every day, her linens and drapes still look and feel like we just bought them yesterday.
Because we literally spent all our budget money at PB, LOL, we had to get creative and change the look of the decor items she already had. We did a lot of painting! :) Her mirror was black and we changed it to silver.
We also took one of the yellow pillows to Lowe's and they were able to match some paint, which we used to paint her vase and flower pot on the dresser.
And we used the same lamp on her night table, we just changed the shade which we found at Target.
We did a little decorating on top of her wardrobe using things we had at home.
I know she will be able to enjoy this look for a long while, well, thinking about it, I think she will probably get tired of it before it even starts looking old. :)
Sometimes it's worth it to really splurge! It's great that you were able to get a new look by painting her existing items. I guess it all worked out in the end and it looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. And so serene looking. She must be a early 20's...and beyond her teens. As she keeps it so neat and tidy!! I love it!!

I so agree Maria Elena! The room looks wonderful and love that you pulled off all the yellows from the beautiful PB fabric!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! She has a sophisticated style already! I agree about paying up front for better quality and it does last longer. I like how you tweaked things with paint.
ReplyDeleteWow- That looks really, really wonderful. I love her choices. They are fresh looking and timeless. Sometimes it really does pay to buy something you love even if it is not something you would usually splurge on. She did good- very, very good! xo Diana

ReplyDeleteI agree, sometimes it is worth paying a little more for better quality. Your daughter's room is lovely. I must show it to my daughter, because I don't know when she last saw the floor in hers!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, quality is worth every penny! Great ideas on repurposing.. amazing what a little bit of paint will do!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful room! I love the colors in the linens and you did a wonderful job on the armoire! I love the lamp too! Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's room "rocks". Love her choice of bedding and accessories. So smart to take a pillow to have paint matched. It's a gorgeous room.
