Another project finished

Hello, everyone!
Ok, I have to admit, this one has taken me a long while to finish,
specially, because I had no idea what I was doing.

We have this armoire that my husband built back in the 90's. No joke!
It is one of the first pieces of furniture he ever built for our home when
he started woodworking and it sure has served its purpose!

It has been used as a dresser, used it to store linens and after that, it became the
TV cabinet for our old family room.

It is solid and it took five men to bring it upstairs when we moved into
this home, so, it is there to stay.

When we transformed the game room into a bigger bedroom for
our daughter last Christmas, she decided to keep it to house her TV and DVD collection.
Thank goodness!!!
We had nightmares about how to go by moving that thing out of there.

Of course, it did not match with any of her furniture and it sure needed some updating,
so I knew I was going to have to do something about that.

Keep in mind, this is my first time ever doing this.
First thing I did was to choose a color that would
go well with her existing linens from Pottery Barn.
I used Green Water by Valspar, in satin finish.

I apologize about the color of the pictures.
No matter how much I tried, I just could not get it right.

This the before

And after

After I primed and painted the whole thing, I wanted to give it a bit of a different look,
so I bought clear glaze and mixed it one cup of glaze with half a cup of
Delicate White paint, also by Valspar.

I already knew I wanted to stencil it, so I have been looking around for
a nice one for weeks now.
I finally found the one I liked at Michaels and was able to use
a 50% off coupon, so it worked out just fine!
Thank you, Martha!:)

I also used the same hardware for now.
First, I sprayed painted all the handles in silver, but did not like the look much, so I redid them all in white.

In the next two pictures, you can see how well this color goes with her bedding

And here it is, before, just painted and with glaze and stencil.

Don't know how long it will stay like this, probably until she takes another trip to PB and
see some other new bedding she just has to have! LOL
I am just glad I was able to do this for her.
I know it could be better, but I am still learning! :)

Thank you for coming to visit!

  9. Wow, Maria!!! I can't add another comment, these bloggers have covered everything I was thinking as I read this. OK, I still have to add that your daughter will always have this great work done by both parents. Your husband is a first class craftsman and brilliant to be able to make such a beautiful piece as this. I don't know how I missed this, but glad I could not sleep and found it. Gorgeous!
