I have to tell you, after all the Christmas decor came down, I didn't have a plan. Nothing!
Had no idea how to decorate our family room and mantle.
It did stayed empty for several days until I decided to stop making my life so hard and just use some of the
I did start by asking my husband to built me two small shutters with some old fence boards we had.
I painted them Natural Beige by SW because it was what I had on hand, distressed them a little and decorated them with two small wreaths I made using a pretty magnolia leaf bush I had bought at Hobby Lobby on sale a while back.
I paid $9.00 for it and it comes with about 30 large and very good quality faux leaves. You can find it here.

The ribbon I used to hold the wreaths goes quite well with our buffalo check curtains in that room.
It came from Michaels.

I also made these little greenery pouches using some burlap bags I had and some of the greenery from Christmas.
Otherwise and as you can see, the rest of the items I used are things I had for a long time like the red metal start
and my old lanterns from Kirklands.

In the center of the mantle I placed the old "home" letters.
And on the right side of the mantle you will find the old Fleur de Lis candle holders which I paired with
another greenery pouch and the second shutter with wreath.

On the hearth you I am using one of the pillows I made back in December and our old metal basket
filled with some acorns.

And that is it. Very simple, but it gives the family room a clean and fresh look. What do you think?
I will share the rest of the room soon. I didn't want this post to go on forever. :)
Thank you for taking the time to visit and always leave me a comment. I appreciate you very much!

I don't know if you were "easy" on yourself making magnolia wreaths and shutters (well guess your hubby did that :) but your mantel decor sure turned out nice! The shutters he made are perfect. How I wish we had a Hobby Lobby here in Canada! I keep thinking making a magnolia wreath would be so much cheaper than buying ready-made and you've proven they look just as good! Looking forward to seeing more of your living room decor.
ReplyDeleteI like it- It really does give you a nice, clean fresh look, Maria. Very, very nice. Hope you have a great rest of the week. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYour mantel is so pretty, Maria. I think I like the greenery the most---it makes us chase out the winter blues! I so wish we had magnolia's here.
ReplyDeleteI struggle with my mantel, too, so I love to see what others do. Thanks for sharing!!

I love your mantel! I'm also swooning over those shutters! What a great idea! We always have spare fence pickets lying around and you've inspired me to put them to use. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it...the shutters really make the mantle!
ReplyDeleteHi Maria! Your mantel is gorgeous. Love the magnolia wreaths and the little shutters! The lanterns and the HOME! Everything you do turns out so pretty. Thanks for popping in to see me.
