SUMMER PROJECTS AT OUR HOME

Hello everyone!
I feel like we were celebrating the 4th of July just the other day, but that is not the case.
Summer is almost over, kids are back to school, Labor day weekend is around the corner and it all went by so fast
that I feel like we didn't get to do everything we had planned on doing.

Looking at my little blog reminded me that even if it doesn't feel like it, it has been a good
and productive Summer for us. A lot got done!
Here are some of the projects.

We built a small accent table for our living room.

Then I run across a huge fabric sale and I changed all the drapes and pillows in our family room and breakfast area.
Lots of sewing involved! :)

In the middle of all this, I made a new drop cloth runner for the coffee table and a table skirt for the round side table and I added fringe to both of them.

Right after I helped my daughter give her bathroom a complete makeover while my husband installed
a new sink in his workshop in the garage.

 Then came the outdoor decorating.
I made several pillows and accents in "apple green" color to give our back porch a little bit of a Summer feel.
I also made a solar rope lamp using items I had at home.

The front porch also got a makeover.
My husband built me a new sign post and the porch got decorated for the 4th.
And when it was time to take down the patriotic decor, I also used the same apple green to decorate
our front porch for the rest of the Summer.

A few projects also happened inside the house.
I gave our coat closet a very much needed makeover and created a large gallery wall on our upstairs landing,
once again using things I already had.

And when I thought I was done, my daughter and I went shopping and found a beautiful comforter set
at such a great price that we just could not leave it behind.
It took us a couple of days to redo her room, but she is very pleased with the result.

We finally found time to built the bench we wanted for our bedroom for a while now.
We used drop cloth and nail heads to finish it off.

And then we had a bad internet outage in our area, which caused me to find myself with a lot of free time, LOL
so I put together a new baking area in the kitchen.

And there is also the big, big job happening in our back yard. We are building a huge deck that will wrap
all around the existing porch and will be the home of our new outdoor kitchen and a larger sitting area.
Maybe we will work faster after the temperatures stop being in the 100's. :)

Well, I guess we did more than I thought. :)
Now we are trying to finish a few things before the holidays get here and believe me,
we will be eating turkey before we know it. :)

I wish you all have a wonderful Labor day weekend.
Last long weekend for a while. Enjoy! :)

See you soon!

TUESDAYS AT OUR HOME #75 & FEATURES

Hello, everyone!
Welcome to Tuesdays at Our Home!

Although it has been only a few days, I feel like I have been absent from the blog for months. :)
I have been so busy with appointments and other errands that I just had to disconnect myself for a little while
to get it all done. I hope things go back to normal soon.

I have a couple of projects going on at the moment, but nothing is finished yet.
I am giving our guest bathroom a little remodel.
I am half way done and I am just waiting on my husband to finish some ledge shelves he is making for me.

My other project is a little more special that the guest bathroom. I am working on updating my son's room.
You see, he will be home for good in just a few months and he will be bringing with him his new bride
and the baby they are expecting. Yes!!! Our first grandchild!
We are finally going to be grandparents! LOL We are sooo very happy!

They will be staying with us for a few weeks until they buy a home and get settled in. We can NOT wait! :)
I have been sewing new curtains for their room, making enough space to accommodate a crib, changing table, etc.   and I am also getting ready to reupholster an old chair, which is very comfy but the fabric is a little worn out.

On another note, I noticed a few weeks ago that my Pinterest page is doing really well, so I decided to make a board that includes all the features of Tuesdays at Our Home.
This board is dedicated to you all and it is my way to show my appreciation for all your support every week.
Every link on that board is connected directly to your blogs, so all the credit will go to you and I will be updating it every week.

MENU PLANNING / COUPON SAVINGS

Let me tell you, this week I think I blinked twice and it was already Thursday. :)
Not only I don't know where the week went, but it is so hard to believe Summer is coming to an end soon.

I was listening to the radio the other morning and they had a commercial talking about Labor Day sales
and my first thought was, Labor day???
And then I realized, it is only a few weeks away! WOW!
To me it seems every year Summer just goes faster and faster.

Well, enough rambling! :)
Today I am just sharing a quick post on how I keep myself sane and our daily life organized
while I save my family a little money every week.

Do you plan your meals and grocery shopping every week?
I have been doing this for sooo many years and it is so helpful to me.

I am an old fashion kind of girl, so I start by putting together a simple handwritten weekly menu.

Now, for those of you that are a little more technology shabby than me :) there is many grocery list/menu planning apps for your iPad or smart phone that you can install on your device. You can find many of these apps on Pinterest.
I do have them, but I just can not get myself used to going to the grocery store holding my iPad. :)

So, what is the best next thing? Paper and pen, of course! :)
As soon as I get a menu figured out, I start making a list of everything I will need to purchase for the week.

To keep everything organized, I have a drawer in my kitchen where I keep the weekly menu, grocery list, calendar
and coupon organizers.

Do you clip grocery coupons? I do, but only the ones of items and brands that we normally purchase.
I usually get them from our Sunday paper, and also from some coupon websites like

Once I have the coupons I want or need for the week, I clip them and store them in my larger coupon organizer and after finishing the grocery list, I get them ready to take with me to the store in my little purple coupon holder. :)

And this is what my savings look like on a regular week.

It is not much, about $30.00 a week, but when you think about it, we save about $120.00 a month
which translates to about $1,400.00 a year in coupon savings.
Every little bit counts!

It only takes me about an hour to get this done every week  and it is nice to get up every day and not to have to think, "what do I make for dinner today?" :)

And this is how I stay organized.
I would love to hear how you keep up with your meal/grocery shopping every week.
Any tips or tricks?

Thank you all for stopping by.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

TUESDAYS AT OUR HOME #73 & FEATURES

Hello, sweet friends!
Welcome to Tuesdays at Our Home!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
Ours was busy once again working on our deck. It is coming alone very nicely, but with the hot temperatures
we are having, it sure makes it double the work.

This side is finished, ready to add the railing, stain and start building the outdoor kitchen, but since the deck is going to wrap all around the existing porch, the construction continues.  :)

Now, lets take a look at some of last week entries.

Poppy from With a Dash of Color created a gorgeous outdoor Summer tablescape.

Jody from Southern Seazons shared with us the beautiful garden shed she had in her previous home.

Alina from Controlled Chaos finished decorating the foyer in her new home. Sooo pretty!

Laurel from The North End Loft shared an update on all the upgrades and changes she has been making to her home. Gorgeous!!!

Babs from Upstairs Downstairs gave her powder room a new look.
What a difference paint can make! Beautiful!

Charlene from A pinch of Joy created a small mudroom in her garage.
What a wonderful idea!
