Art copycat

It is that time again!
Time to go join Debbie at for another one of her great
Magazine copycat challenge parties.

I am in the process of redoing our son's room.
He is now proudly serving in the US Navy and we just found out
he will be coming home on leave in two weeks.
Words can't tell you how happy I am since I have not seen my son for almost six months!

We have done several improvements in his room lately that I will share with you all soon,
but, while online searching for a new comforter set, I came across an
art piece that I really liked and I thought I give it a try.
These are the pictures I found on line at Bed, Bath & Beyond

Do you see the art over the bed?
Here is my version

I had this very, very old picture.
I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it! LOL
But I am glad I kept it!
I took it apart and painted the frame satin black.

These are the supplies I used.
Adhesive borders and foam board.
The board was the only thing I had to purchase for $1.99.

And I just made a copy of the print I wanted at Walgreens for $2.99.

 Very simple and very economical!

Total cost of project, $5.00.

On my way to check out all the copycat entries.
Thank you Debbie for hosting this fun party!
And, thank you all for taking the time to stop by!

  4. Looks very good, and I actually prefer your print to the one you took the idea from.
How very exciting having your son home. I bet you are counting down the minutes to his arrival!

  5. Hi Mary Elena! First, I love both of your copycats, you have a breautiful home! I myself love black and white prints and of course I love yours plus for $5.00 you can't go wrong!
I'm now a follower of yours with GFC and Linky Follower! Have a wonderful day and also viewed your back porch!

  6. That is the perfect picture for your son's room! You did a great job!

  7. Wow. This copycat is spot on! Love it!!!

  8. Great project, Maria Elena! I like your picture better! Love that it didn't cost a lot either; that always make the satisfaction when it's done that much nicer.

  9. Look at you Ms. Copycat submitting two entries! Very clever at such a great price, your picture turned out fabulous! I love the adhesive borders you found. I bet you are so excited to see your son :)

  11. I LOVE it!! Awesome work for sure!!
    I'm following you back!!

  12. It turned out very nicely. Your son will love it.

  13. It's no wonder that you like the copy cat challenges--you do a fantastic job! This picture turned out great (I love the addition of the adhesive border!) and is so appropriate for your Navy son. I'm so happy for you that you will get to see him soon. My son just ended nine months in Bahrain and is back on Oahu. I haven't seen him in a year. :(

  14. Your project turned into a work of art! This is perfect for your Navy son's room. How wonderful for you he is coming home on leave. Six months is a long time to a mom. I know your welcome home celebration will be wonderful. My very best to your son, and a huge thank you for what he is doing. My dad was in the Navy, so they have a special place in my heart.

  15. Stopping by to say hello and scroll through many of your posts. I have enjoyed visiting and really like how this project came out. It looks lovely and something I will remember for my home. The large white border makes it look very nice!

  16. Maria, that picture is perfect for your son's room. I know he will be thrilled with it. You're giving me ideas! Thanks, Helen
