Do you love to read?
I think reading has been one of my passions since I was very little.
I have been collecting books for years and still have boxes put away, you see I can't get rid of any of them, it would be like giving away my children. :)
I always dreamed of having a home library, but reality was that we never lived in a house big enough, or with enough rooms to make it happen.
Until we built this home!
Every model home we looked at was beautiful, but what I was really looking for was enough space to have a home library. This house had that space!
It was supposed to be the fifth bedroom, so we asked the builder not to put in a closet and add double glass doors.
This is my favorite room in the whole house, I like it even better than my craft room! LOL

After we moved in my husband started building the shelves.
This turned out to be a seven months project.
He took his time and built every shelf and little piece of molding.
He did an amazing job with it and I couldn't be anymore pleased.
It is what I always dreamed of having!
I have to say the pictures don't give it justice. It is gorgeous in person.
With today's technology we can get wrapped up on using our electronic devices more and more, don't get me wrong,
I love my iPad so much!
But I still think that there is no better feeling in the world than to hold a brand new book in your hands.
I have to tell you I will read anything that comes my way :) but I also have my favorite authors.
I love mystery novels and my favorite books are by Mary Higgins Clark.
But of course, who hasn't read a little Danielle Steel or Nora Roberts. :)
This room also serves as our home office. Here is where I spend a lot of time blogging, on Skype with my family in Spain and visiting all of your blogs.
I am looking at getting some new comfy chairs and a pretty carpet, but for now, I am enjoying it just the way it is.
Thank you all for stopping by and make sure you pick up a good book today. :)
Tuesdays at Our Home is still live. Stop by for a visit if you would like. Lots of beautiful inspiration this week!
See you all soon!

Love, love, love your bookshelves, Maria Elena! I would love to do something like this on one wall in our home office. We have two that my husband built for me one year for Christmas, but I think a wall of them would look great. Your husband did a great job on these. Love the detail he gave them.
ReplyDeleteYour library is beautiful! And your hubs did an amazing job! My hubs built ours too, but no molding and all, just simple built-in shelves, love the elegance in your Maria Elena!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your husband did a great job! Your library looks great! I have a hard time getting rid of books too. I still have a ton of childrens books that belonged to my boys when they were little. I plan on reading them to my grandchildren some day. :) I love to read too...in fact, I have a favorite cozy mystery series that I've re-read at least three times!
ReplyDeleteYour cabinetry is gorgeous, Maria Elena! The fleur de lis details caught my eye right away! We also did a combo library/home office. I put a small settee in there; and our girls always loved going in there to read. I love the way that you styled your shelves. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI stared at your library pictures yesterday when I was looking at your home tour. We have a space upstairs that will eventually be a library. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteYours is beautiful! I'm with you....technology will never take the place of a book in my hands. :)
I love your library, Maria Elena, and your husband did an incredible job! I feel the same way about books--can't part with any of them, and I love Mary Higgens Clark too!
ReplyDeleteDee :)
Your husband did a wonderful job on your library you can see he paid attention to detail on it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite authors areBelva Plain, Maeve Binchy, Rosamunde Pilcher, Anna Quindlen, Kristen Hannah,
Alexis Harrington and Nicholas Sparks to name a few. I love books and also my Kindle it seems to save
me money.
WOW what a great room, love all the woodwork and custom shelving. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful and a great use for the 5th bedroom. I love books, too. I have hauled collections of them all over the country. I have finally started purging and it feels good. I am getting rid of those one-time reads mostly. There are whole collections that I have read more than once and those I will keep. I am keeping most of my hardbacks but not many paperbacks (unless they are in a collected series). I have always loved to read but don't do nearly enough of it anymore-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYour library is wonderful! Your husband did such a great job on those book shelves!!
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous! The shelves are beautiful! I would LIVE in that room! We finally got enough bookcases this summer to unpack all of our boxes of books. It's been fun to get them all out to enjoy! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful shelving unit!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous. This is what I want when we move house next year. We have so many books and I would like to have them all neatly arranged and easily accessible.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the prettiest home libraries I've seen. The white painted shelving with the in-ceiling lights make it so bright and inviting. Your husband is one super handyman!

Your library is truly stunning....I would never leave! You throw a blanket and a pillow on the floor and I'll be fine! Your hubby did a beautiful job, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat room is dangerous, if I had one like it I don't think I would get any work done! As great as the internet is, it can't give you the satisfaction of cradling the weight of a book in your hand, the soft whisper of a turning page, and the intoxicating scent of ink on paper, I love books too!
ReplyDeleteOh m y goodness, what inspiration! This is perfect- and your room looks to be formatted very similar to ours and we soooooooooooo need to fix up this space. Your husband did a remarkable job, this is AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shelves! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays. x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Your hubby is talented, sure did a wonderful job. The trim detail is so nice. Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I loved my mom's den growing up. Floor to ceiling bookshelves, where I'd read a book for every football game my dad watched on tv.
ReplyDeletesince then, I've had floor to ceiling bookshelves in every home I've occupied. Wouldn't be warm without them! In this incarnation, I'm also even considering building a library ladder to get to the top shelves! After a house fire, I gave away 220 boxes of books (I want to say 360 but over time I've now lost track of the collections I gave away) on Freecycle. I kept the ones I loved or that were autographed. The others I decided weren't doing anyone any good not being avidly read by someone! I thought I'd regret it, but not. There are always more.
Your husband did a really gorgeous job on those shelves. If he doesn't do trim carpentry, he should. As long as people don't mind waiting 7 months! :)
